Cipla Limited today announced that it has partnered with the Nepal Respiratory Society to launch the “Breathefree 90” alerts program, an AI-powered adherence bot designed to help respiratory patients in Nepal stay consistent with their inhaler treatment. This (90 days) 3-month program will give outregular alerts (reminders)by the chatbot. This partnership highlights Cipla’s commitment to bringing innovative solutions to patients, thus fortifying its lung leadership position.
Air pollution remains one of Nepal’s most pressing health challenges and the leading cause of death in the country, responsible for approximately 50,000 deaths annually. The prevalence of respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are on the rise. However, despite the availability of effective inhaler treatments, non-adherence continues to be a major concern, leading to worsened symptoms and frequent hospital visits.
The “Breathefree 90” alerts program leverages AI technology to send personalised reminders via WhatsApp, ensuring patients take their inhalers on time. Additionally, the chatbot provides educational content on proper inhaler usage and disease management, empowering patients to improve treatment outcomes. Patients can easily enrol by scanning a QR code available at healthcare touchpoints, including clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies. Once enrolled, with due consent patients receive daily reminders aligned with their treatment schedule, along with interactive educational content to encourage better adherence and long-term success.
Commenting on the launch, Swapn Malpani, CEO, Emerging Markets and Europe, Cipla, said: “Cipla has been steadfastly focused on addressing the world’s growing respiratory disease burden by harnessing next-generation technologies. We are creating solutions that revolutionise patient care – enhancing diagnosis, treatment, and disease management. As leaders in respiratory health, we are committed to empowering patients to manage their symptoms and treatment plans effectively. Through this solution, we are advancing our strides in combating chronic respiratory ailments like asthma and COPD and help patients breathe free.”
The Nepal Respiratory Society (NRS) will play a key role in promoting the program among healthcare professionals (HCPs), ensuring its adoption and integration into clinical practice. NRS will also drive awareness efforts and endorse the initiative, facilitating patient enrolment through clinics and hospitals.
